Caroline Kingsley

What is your role?
I manage the Technical team, recruiting at a senior level for technical roles across the UK, including Project and Programme Management, Building Surveying & Quantity Surveying.

Education
I completed a degree in Building Surveying. I really enjoyed the variety that the course offered, studying architecture and design, conservation, economics and business studies.

First Property Job
I worked for a developer, who was converting a grade II listed hospital into apartments. My role was to work with potential purchasers and design a bespoke layout with the client, as well as sales.

Shortest Job
My first job was also my shortest job! The owner of the development company was not the easiest person to work with, so I decided to leave after a few months!

What was the secret to your success?
I am pretty hard on myself – I don’t think I am there yet – there are still lots I want to achieve in my life. I guess resilience has been key, I have had my fair share of curve balls in the last decade and a bit, but I’m still here!

What piece of advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry?
Get as much varied experience as you can and be prepared to move to another location in order to get your career off to the right start.

What is the best advice you have received?
Focus on being the best in your field. Do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it.”
